gene kelly, ogres, saved by the bell, double dutch and more!

fuck jameson, pastiche is awesome (thats frederick jameson, not jenna) (and i suppose ‘can be awesome’ would be more accurate)

here’s my latest mit zine article: TV Stole My Memories!

‘the go! team’ are like my favourite thing in the world right now, check out their video for ladyflash, it has double dutch!

i wish western was a really rich school and could get really funny people to come do graduation speeches, such as will ferrell (video), jon stewart, or conan obrien

yay canada on the gay marriage thing, im glad martin is taking such a firm stance, hopefully he can do the same on missile defense and not be bullied

a guardian piece on the history of hip hop complete with the ultimate rap mix tape.

i think for the first time ever i disagree with jon stewart. he seems pretty gung-ho about the iraqi election which is unusual considering his usual right-on critical standpoint. maybe im wrong, but this elections seems like a sham to me (mostly), so does:
Sami Ramadani - The Vietnam turnout was good as well
James Carroll - Train Wreck of an Election
Arianna Huffington - Post-Election Buzzkill: Why Iraq Is Still A Debacle
Mark Morford - Come See Our Brutal Democracy, Freedom rings in Iraq! Bush was right all along! America wins! Or, you know, not
John Nichols - Occupation Thwarts Democracy

nite gone horribly awry

so i goes down to the civic hotel to check out the avalanches, but its sold out because thats just the kind of luck i would have tonite, apparently. thinking i might as well make use of this train ride downtown, i check out ‘the motorcycle diaries’, which is quite good and the only upside to my big city night. walking back im enjoying the sydney downtown and thinking about debord and the derive, so i decide to just wander aimlessly. i return to the train station around 1:30 and much to my surprise, it has shut down. yee-haw, construction. a young lady has also just realized that she is now stranded downtown, so i says ‘uhh what do we do?’ we ask a train guy and he informs us about the replacement bus, leaving at 2. so we go wait where he tells us until around 2:30 when another train guy comes by and we’re like ‘what the shit?’ while pointing to the bus sign. this guy starts laughing at us (?) and says no no, youre in the wrong spot, other side of the train station. so we go to the ‘real’ bus stop, and wait another half hour and the bus drives right by us. why? couldnt tell you. at this point, my companion on this horrible bus adventure begins to get a little upset, and a furious aussie temper tantrum takes place. so its about 3 now, just about all small talk has been exhausted, we’re both getting pretty tired, and she’s trying to bottle up the rage. at 3:30 another bus comes by, my new aussie friend yells and guilt trips the bus driver into going a little off route, so we’re good to go. about an hour on a bus going to what seems like ALL of the train stations in sydney, we part ways, i get off at miranda, then stumble back 30 minutes to the house. 4:59 am, good times.

sorry if that was boring, but i dont get up to much these days, so that is my dose of weekly excitement i thought i’d share.
