sangria, saskatchewan and a shooting

whoops i havent talked about myself on this ol gal in months. i havent been doing much besides (not)writing essays this past little while (first year grad school is done, but not without taking a piece of my soul these past 6 weeks), but some of it is gathered thru random photos culled from flickr and facebook. sorry to people who actually took these pictures, you get absolutely no credit.

i went skiing at seymour, where i took a huge bail and some punk 12 year old chirped me as i lay on the ground like a chump.

and i went skiing at whistler, which im so happy got captured in such an exhilarating action shot

and st paddys day was in there somewhere

and i dressed up as a freezie for halloween with my brother.

wait a minute facebook, that was years ago!

and i’m finished marking papers so i wasn’t in my favourite coffee shop much this past week (i would switch, but jj beans just isn’t open very late)

and the other day we drank a gallon of homemade sangria on the beach and then played soccer with a couple of 6 year olds…. many hours later, goldeneye was played.

i also saw lcd soundsystem, it was a mind blowing show. my mind is blown.

i’m going to saskatchewan (yeehaw!) and south america (which is cool i guess) in a couple weeks, then back to ontario to see as many friends as possible before i drive cross country with an elite squad of diversely talented road trippers. im hoping to pee on every border between provinces, mark my territory from ontario to bc.

while my internet wasn’t working: part 3/4

sometimes i get a little weirded out by the amount of people i don’t know who read this blog, but then i found this:

I do not write for a select minority, which means nothing to me, nor for that adulated platonic entity known as ‘The Masses’. Both abstractions, so dear to the demagogue, I disbelieve in. I write for myself and for my friends, and I write to ease the passing of time.

- jorge luis borges

incidentally, ian is living in borges’ hood in argentina, and im hoping to abandon everything in my life and join him if he finds me a job as a struggling journalist. or maybe i’ll just go visit him (seriously ian, email me).

winter in vancouver:

click for bigger

it was like 10 degrees and sunny everyday for a week here like a month ago, and so i decided that it was spring, but its back to being cold and rainy. stupid smarch weather.

i have a hard time taking pictures of strangers, i feel like i should ask them permission. instead, i sneak pictures of hipsters playing croquet on a hill in front of the skyline from afar.

also, i could never go back to an ontario winter now. 0 is enough to make me stay inside, its like how my sister has been in australia so long she uses a heating blanket in 10 degree weather. speaking of my sister, she just gave birth to a darling little baby girl, named brydie (pronounced “bry” like “dry”, and “die” like “dee”). how cute is little thomas giving her a kiss!

speaking of darling kids, here’s a pic of me with mandy’s super adorable daughter charlotte from christmas. later we danced to the clash.

i should probably stop dressing up as a girl, my brother’s girlfriend was noticeably weirded out by the halloween picture we have up of when i was the western zombie girl. i’ll stick to just dressing up with toddlers for awhile.

“Our liability coverage is zero.
Our balls, however, are enormous.”

me and the roomie are awfully lazy, it has takin us about 5 months to actually set up our living room. we finally got a tv stand and a coffee table, all our frames are filled with pictures (half of them are even hung), we wired up the tv to the computer (cable is so 20th century), and we celebrated with all this fresh food we bought at the bakery and ravioli shop: bread and deli meat and ravioli and baba ganoosh and pita and wine. so we’re like totally yuppies now. but we were high for the whole thing, so i guess we’re hippies too.

yippies. just like i feared.

also, we have a lot of wiring and 12 speakers (including shower radio) and 4 screens in our tiny apartment. so we’re kinda like techno yippies. well i am at least.

euchre is also back in our life. as usual, we think we’re the shit, only to get destroyed in almost every game. we played with my brother and his girlfriend, who are now living here, so our friend count in vancouver might be up to double digits. we also played with don and his friends, where penalty shots are involved for every 5 points lost, lone hands, or euchres. penalty shots breed more penalty shots, until both bottles of sambuca and vodka are gone, and picking up chicks at the gay bar seems like a good idea. the music is better there though.

we’re off to watch the superbowl (who’s playing?) at the legion with the oldies. in unrelated news, the terrorists have won.
